Twenty-two years ago my husband and I were driving home from the hospital still in shock; my dad had passed away. Trying to find its way in was the reality that he was gone. One of us suggested stopping at the bakery for some doughnuts to bring back to mom’s house.
“Wait,” I said, “they won’t be open, dad died.”
I paused, then corrected my mistake. The bakery would be open; only my world had stopped that morning.
15 years ago on September 11, 2001, my world, the entire world, stopped. Most of us were in shock with the harsh reality of the World Trade center and Pentagon attack. The news struck me almost as hard as my dad’s passing. Even stranger, I was in D.C. at Walther Reed Army base that day.
I witnessed first-hand our nation’s finest do what they do best, defend and protect. It was a defining moment of my life.
As I remember 9/11, and the individual lives lost that day, and the heroes of the tragedy, I urge you to join me and not only remember but reflect on how you want to live your life going forward.
What are you doing to make the world a better place?
Are you managing your emotions? Your stress? Or are you letting the “mean” of the world sink in and control you?
Are you focused on the good of the world? The heroes, the kind-hearted, the brave?
Please pause today, remember, and then reflect on how you will make a positive difference to yourself first and then to those around you.
Take care and let your brilliance shine out in positive kindness!
